If you are a
big sports fan, you’ll love this story. A little birdie (volunteer Cindy Hackett)
told us that our patient, Joan, was a life-long Cleveland Browns fan. She knew this
because Joan’s room was filled with Browns décor, and she claimed to never miss
a game. So Cindy got to thinking that Joan might really enjoy a Gift of a Day involving
her favorite football team.
Well, as luck would have it, executive director Dean Leupold, had previously worked
with former Browns’ player George Lilja. Dean asked George if he would help Crossroads make Joan’s day…her Gift of a Day. And he agreed, along with ex-teammate Bob Golic.

Now it was time for the Crossroads team to pull it all together. They decided to make it an event
the whole nursing home
could enjoy. They proceeded to plan a tailgating party known
as Cleveland Browns Day! The nursing home was decorated with brown and orange balloons
and steamers, and filled with delicious snacks.
George Lilja and Bob Golic brought Joan garb and gear courtesy of the Cleveland
Browns. They spent time with Joan and her family, signed autographs, and even got
some press coverage.
Talk about a special day!?! Joan and her family had a wonderful
time and new memories to share. A great time was had by all. Yeah team! |
