Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Jeanne Smith

undefinedAfter the passing of her husband, Jeanne Smith knew firsthand the grief that comes with such a significant loss. As she worked through her own mourning process, she decided to help others experiencing a similar heartache:she joined Crossroads Hospice as a volunteer. Since joining the team in 2006, Jeanne has been selflessly providing companionship to our patients. Her courageous work as what we call a“companion visitor” honors the memory of her husband, and assists our patients and families who are struggling with illness and grief.

She has risen above her own grief to be a source of care and compassion for the people we serve at Crossroads Hospice.  Why? Because she recognizes that of all things people need as they approach life’s end, love and support are the most important.

Jeanne reached her seven year anniversary with Crossroads Hospice last month. Her role with us has expanded over that time, and she now serves on our Ethics Committee in addition to her role as a companion visitor.

Providing compassionate, dignified care is the sacred work of hospice. Some of our greatest team members caring for patients and families are volunteers that have been touched by this hospice mission. Those who can, do. Those who can do more, volunteer!
