Retired RN Keeps the Office Humming

undefinedOriginally from Sewickley, Pennsylvania, Phyllis Cowan has volunteered for the Crossroads Hospice Cincinnati office for the past year.

Married for 35 years to her wonderful husband Stephen and the mother of two daughters, Samantha and Molly, Phyllis is a retired Critical Care RN from the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.  Phyllis' background has made her an excellent medical records volunteer.

It is not uncommon to see Phyllis in the office two or three days a week working on medical records or helping out with mailings or data entry for the interdisciplinary group or bereavement group. In addition to that work, Phyllis can also be found updating the MD files with current demographics and making procedure manuals.

"The staff is so caring and supportive of their patients and each other,” Phyllis says. "As a volunteer, I am made to feel like an important part of the team.  I am shown respect and gratitude for the work I do and I love it here!"

We love Phyllis and the contributions she brings to our office. If it were not for Phyllis and the many other volunteers who give of their time and energy, we would not be able to provide the level of service that our patients enjoy,” says Volunteer Manager Matthew Dunn.
