Certified Nursing Assistants: Everyday Superheroes

certified nursing assistant superhero

Certified nursing assistants are superheroes with gentle hands, encouraging words and compassionate hearts supporting patients when they need it most. Of all members of our hospice and palliative care team, certified nursing assistants are the ones who provide the most hands-on end-of-life care to our patients.

Certified nursing assistants couldn't do what they do without a strong calling to serve. They provide personal end-of-life care including feeding, bathing and dressing patients. They assist in making meals, personal grooming and changing soiled sheets.

Why Certified Nursing Assistants Do What They Do

“I had always enjoyed working with people. As a pastor’s wife, I learned that I really gravitated toward the older and frailer members of the church. When I decided to go back to school, I decided I could care for this group of people that I really loved by working as a Certified Nursing Assistant.” - Carrie Robertson, Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care

"We all have a purpose in life; mine is to nurture. What a perfect way to fulfill my calling! The satisfaction I get knowing that I was able to touch someone's life means the world to me." - Rishanda Webb, Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care

"I became a hospice aide because I saw the way my grandma's hospice aides and nurses treated and cared for her. They gave her such love and compassion in the last few weeks of her life. They were very supportive toward us [the family] as well. I knew that I wanted to give that back to patients and their families! That's the most important part of my job — knowing that I give each and every one of my patients love, support and compassion during their last days here on earth. Knowing that I put a smile on their faces helps, too. I simply love what I do as a hospice aide." - Miranda Bratton, Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care

Personal End-of-Life Care

“At Crossroads, I love that I am trusted to care for my patients. I am given freedom and time to take care of my patients in whatever way they need. If at any time I need help to meet my patients’ needs, another aide on my team will help me. We are a family with a common goal of taking care of others.”- Verlean Hibbler. Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care

"I love being a hospice aide because I think the dying process is just as special as the birthing process. Emotions are different because we are all human and selfish enough to want to keep everyone forever, but to have the privilege to sit and support families as they usher their loved one to heaven is a magical moment." - Rachael Sanders, Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care

Whether we call them certified nursing assistants, CNAs, nurse’s aides or hospice aides, they are all superheroes for providing personal end-of-life care with a ton of heart.
