Nurses: Superheroes in Scrubs

nurses superheroes in scrubs

With scrubs instead of capes and stethoscopes as their weapons of choice, superhero nurses are fighting for good health every day. Thankfully, there are a lot of them to help in times of need. Nursing is the largest healthcare profession in the United States – with more than 3 million registered nurses nationwide. Nursing superhero superpowers encompass the 3Cs of great patient care:

  1. Compassion
  2. Communication
  3. Carefulness

Compassion

Caring concern is one of the first things we all think about when we consider a nurse’s superhero skills. From our earliest days in the school nurse’s office where the nurse bandaged up small cuts to later in life when a nurse is often the last person at our bedside holding our hand, it’s a nurse’s compassion that makes us feel like we’re in good hands.

Communication

Superhero nurses often act as a liaison between doctors and patients, making superior communication skills essential. They need to be able to follow a doctor’s directions and translate their instructions to patients.

Good nurses are also their patient’s best advocates, understanding what they need and fighting to ensure they get it. Nurses are not assistants. They are important collaborators in the best possible outcome for their patients.

Carefulness

Being a nurse requires a strict attention to detail, whether it’s dispensing medication or writing patient notes. It’s this carefulness that allows them to be superhero problem solvers, finding solutions where others might miss them in tricky cases or family situations.

At Crossroads Hospice, hospice nurse responsibilities include tracking a patient’s progress, managing medications and ensuring that all medical needs are being met. Superhero nurses are working every day for their patients. They’re often on their feet for long stretches of time, not even stopping to use the bathroom.

We salute and thank these nurses for the care they give to us and our patients.
