Patient heads Strait to Vegas for Magical Gift of a Day

Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care patient Linda Cooper is a serious George Strait fan. His music seems to always be playing in her house. Yet, she’s never seen him live.

She’s also a serious traveler. In fact, she’s visited all 50 states. Yet , somehow in all her travels, she never made it to Vegas. Her Gift of a Day was the perfect chance to make both of these dreams come true.

On Saturday, February 18, 2017, Linda and her daughter joined our nurse Emily Hahn and Gift of a Day Coordinator Tracy Bunch at the Kansas City International Airport.

They boarded an early flight to Las Vegas, ready to see the show.

It was a rainy day in Las Vegas, but that didn’t stop our crew from taking in the sights.

Strait to Vegas

Soon, they were heading to the T-Mobile Arena for the biggest surprise of the trip! Linda was escorted backstage to meet George Strait himself!

They chatted and took photos together. Then, it was on to the show! Known for hits like “Amarillo by Morning” and “Fool Hearted Memory,” he didn’t disappoint his biggest fan.

Linda had told us she would “hang from the rafters” to see George, but luckily, it didn’t come to that. She was right up in the front for every minute of the performance.

The rain continued the next day and flights got delayed, but it didn’t dampen Linda’s enthusiasm for the trip.

Gift of a Day.

The Gift of a Day program provides patients with the opportunity to have one perfect day. For some patients, that’s dinner with family. For others, it’s a special performance by a local performer. For Linda, it was the trip of a lifetime.
