Three New Year’s Resolutions You Should Actually Keep
The New Year isn't even a day old. How many of you have already hit a roadblock while trying to keep at least one of your New Year's resolutions?
You're in good company. A whopping 92% of people who make resolutions fail to keep them. One reason so many of us fail is we make our resolutions so complex or unobtainable, we can't possibly maintain them long-term.
So what can you do to find success this year? Keep it simple and focus on achievable goals. Here are three New Year’s resolutions you really should (and can) keep.
1. Make one small change for better health.
Whether it's drinking eight glasses of water a day or parking a little further away from the grocery store, small changes can add up to big results. Meditating for five minutes where you actually sit still for five whole minutes every day will have more impact than dropping your one-hour meditation practice two days into it.
Regardless of what you choose, find a way to track it. Cross off successful days on your calendar or download an app like HabitBull. When you see that chain of successes start to stretch through the month, it will be a lot easier to keep your New Year’s resolution going.
Studies show that volunteering can boost happiness, decrease depression and help you live longer. At Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care, we're always looking for kind-hearted individuals to visit with patients, help with administrative work and attend special celebrations like Gift of a Day events and Veteran’s Recognition ceremonies. Our Volunteer Managers are trained to match your availability and talents with the perfect volunteer opportunity.
3. Get your healthcare paperwork in order.
Astute readers of the Crossroads blog might notice that this is the third time we've mentioned this particular New Year's resolution option in the past week.
It's that important!
Plus you can get it done in less than an hour and crown yourself as a successful keeper of 2017 resolutions. If you won't do it for the peace of mind for yourself and your family, do it for the bragging rights!
We wish everyone the best of luck with your resolutions and a very happy New Year.
