In recognition of National Mental Health Day today, October 10th, we invite you to take a moment to learn how your Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefit can support your mental well-being.

Twenty-four hour a day, seven day a week access to short-term counseling. That’s how accessible Crossroads’ EAP is to team members. Available through the My Benefits Work app, Crossroads’ EAP benefit is a short-term, confidential counseling benefit.

In addition to the Teladoc Mental Health benefit Crossroads team members have access to, which provides therapist and psychiatry visits within 72 business hours, Telephonic EAP provides 24/7 access to short-term counseling, according to Brian Del Savio of New Benefits, Crossroads’ enhanced benefits partner.

Advice and referrals to other specialists including psychologists and psychiatrists can also result from reaching out to the EAP provider, Del Savio said when asked what he’d like Crossroads team members to know about their EAP benefit.

Referrals to experts who can assist with additional work life solutions like dealing with elder care, childcare, substance abuse, financial concerns, legal matters and stress management are all part of EAP’s menu of services.

We know team members’ days can be packed with action and stresses on the job and at home. That’s why we’re happy to make our EAP available to all Crossroads team members to use anonymously when and as they see fit.

Spotlight on Dee Taylor of Provider Relations

Building & Maintaining Referral Relationships for Crossroads

According to Provider Relations Representative Dee Taylor, Crossroads enjoys an excellent reputation in Memphis that it has earned over many years of delivering outstanding end-of-life care to local community members and their families.

This helps Dee with her job. On a daily basis Dee continues to build Crossroads’ reputation as she educates referral sources about the benefits of hospice care while serving as an important liaison to long-term and memory care facilities, cancer centers, doctors, hospitals and individuals.

When Dee first joined Crossroads she only anticipated staying with the company for a short time until she found another position in pharmaceutical sales after the firm she worked for closed unexpectedly. “It was a blessing in disguise,” according to Dee.

That was more than 14 years ago. But everything fell into place quickly for Dee at Crossroads. She found her calling almost immediately and has thrived ever since. While her position is externally focused on driving business for Crossroads, internally Dee loves working as a member of Crossroads’ integrated care teams.

    Crossroads is a Special Place

Dee loves to collaborate with team members to support Crossroads’ signature programs like Gift of a Day, Life Journals and Veterans Recognition.

Deep down Dee understands and appreciates Crossroads’ “mission and vision.” This guides her as she “finds out what’s important to the customer” and what they are “looking for in a hospice.”

It’s not just new relationships. Maintaining and retaining relationships with existing referral sources are also part of Dee’s role. She prides herself on being a problem solver who uncovers and resolves issues for clients.

Dee tends to know everyone in a long-term care building from the front desk to the business office. Included are all the social workers, nurses, chaplains and aides too. Dee is not only known she is trusted.

And when she’s not diligently on the job at Crossroads Dee enjoys domestic and international travel, good food, live jazz shows, Broadway and the arts.

Scary or Cute? Turn a Cup into a Halloween Character

Afterwork crafting can be an excellent de-stresser and it’s never too late to start. Whether your approach to Halloween is scary or cute, there’s many ways to decorate for the holiday. Try this easy craft that turns everyday cups into familiar Halloween characters.

    What You’ll Need:

    • Plastic Cups (in brown, green, black, and/or orange)
    • Pipe Cleaners
    • Googly Eyes
    • Construction Paper or Stickers
    • Glue

Note: If you can’t find the colors you need you can paint your cups with acrylic craft paint.

    Steps:

    1. If needed, paint your cups the color needed for your character.
Looking to create a Frankenstein character? Try a bright green color for your cup. If you want to make a bat, use black. For ghost decorations, use white paint and tissues.

    2. Glue googly eyes to your cup.
Let your creations come to life! For a spider cup, add multiple eyes to create a realistic effect. For a spooky cyclops, one googly eye should do the trick.

    3. Use construction paper or stickers to make a face.
Get creative with your decorations. If you are making a spider, cut out wings from black construction paper and tape them to the sides. To create a scary smile, cut teeth out of white paper and glue them to a red grin.

    4. Add pipe cleaner legs for a friendly spider.
Carefully poke holes in the bottom of the cup and push pipe cleaners through to create spider legs. You can also add a green pipe cleaner to the top of the cup to create a pumpkin stem.
