    Acuity-Based Staffing Training is Underway!

The Focus is on When Patients Need us Most

Being there when our patients need us most. At Crossroads we have always embraced this simple, yet important concept but coming out of the pandemic required us to think about resourcing differently to deliver on our promise.

Figuring out how to deliver the most end-of-life care possible in a challenging and short-staffed environment was Perry and Clayton Farmer’s primary business focus in 2022. The solution was an acuity-based allocation of staff resources.

Although we introduced this concept company-wide last year, we learned that we did not do a good job explaining how to operationalize it at the site level. To help everyone understand the concept and deliver on our promise of “more,” C4’s Heather Slone is educating site leaders on staffing with Crossroads’ proven acuity-based care model.  The first training took place in Cincinnati a few weeks ago and the next one is scheduled for mid-September in Memphis.

According to several participants, the training in Cincinnati was helpful on so many levels. Heather is an engaging and inspiring educator. But first and foremost was their gaining the “why” and the “business reasons” driving Crossroads’ staffing based on patient acuity and an emphasis on increased visits in the first 15 and last seven days of life.

What Participants said about the Training in Cincinnati:

I was reassured that I was following processes correctly. Having the “why” things have to be done a certain way explained was very helpful.
-Sherrie Whitson, Clinical Director in Cincinnati.

Taking all the processes and different systems we have and putting it all together to understand why we do what we do was nice. I hadn’t thought a lot about the profit side of our business. We do things to provide care and manage the money while meeting each patient where they are. This is so helpful as I teach others.
-Christie Martinez, Site Educator in Lenexa.

It was really great, very thorough and organized. I enjoyed going through standard procedures. It’s reassuring to know how much peer support and information is available to me. As I continue to learn I see Crossroads has accounted for any type of question I might have. There is a wealth of knowledge in our shared community.
-Robyne Wood, Pharm Lead in Cincinnati.

Often what we do is just one tenth of the overall big picture is something I learned. To understand the why behind our actions so it can be reinforced through site education for processes was very valuable.
-Cyndi Hodge, Site Educator in Cincinnati.

    What’s Your Story?

No one wakes up daily, looks in the bathroom mirror, and says, "Today, I am excited to do the same stupid things I've done for years." But it's likely that you will, or at least some part of you will want to repeat uninspiring and self-defeating patterns.

This condition is not unique to you: millions feel this way. Why do so many people feel conflicted and stuck?

    What’s Your Story?

No one wakes up daily, looks in the bathroom mirror, and says, "Today, I am excited to do the same stupid things I've done for years." But it's likely that you will, or at least some part of you will want to repeat uninspiring and self-defeating patterns.

This condition is not unique to you: millions feel this way. Why do so many people feel conflicted and stuck?

We live in a world that wants to supply (for a cost) a pill or quick fix that temporarily alleviates discomfort instead of addressing it. Yet the suffering persists, and we continue to create debilitating myths (and patterns) by telling ourselves, "That's how I am or how things are."

Even worse, these myths create anxiety-inducing phantom narratives. Conversations that never happen or evaluating others' motives that don't exist. These scripts and narratives only serve to make noise because they aren't really ours. They are faulty scripts acquired from role models and society that drown out our authentic voice. Most of the time, they operate unconsciously or barely consciously, surfacing only when they create more significant problems for us and we ask, "Why do I keep doing this?"

One of the most common things I hear from my clients is, "I want to make my work-life more fulfilling; what can I do?" They often cite obstacles in the form of relationships or external circumstances as the main barrier to getting on the right path.

    What's my answer?

It's always the same – start with your patterns. Every pattern you have holds a rich world of resonance and relational narratives. Your resonances and scripts are fundamental to writing your unique story - the prime material from which you build meaning.

Everything you need to get unstuck, to get out of the feeling of being on a treadmill, is already present. All it takes is bringing our stories, narratives, and scripts into consciousness. Grab a pen and start writing a story that resonates and interests you based on where you are in life right now.
