Hospice Makes a Difference

There are many misconceptions about hospice care and Crossroads Hospice strives to bring clarity to the subject. Many people believe hospice is for patients who are actively dying. Truth is, hospice is for people who have a limited life expectancy of six months or less. And, the sooner a patient engages in hospice care, the better their quality of life will be. In fact, hospice care may prolong the lives of some terminally ill patients. 1

The benefits of hospice are far-reaching. Hospice enables patients to live to the fullest with purpose, dignity and support. It can transform passage into a peaceful, healing transition. And, the benefits not only apply to the patient, but the family or caregiver as well. Home health aides can provide assistance with personal care such as bathing or shaving. Volunteers may be available for light housekeeping and meal preparation. Social workers can help family members access resources. Spiritual counselors can provide support to help resolve "unfinished business" or saying goodbye.

Bottom line is hospice care makes a difference, and that’s why Perry, George and Clayton Farmer, owners of Crossroads Hospice, set out to help patients and families add “positives” at the end of life. To learn more about Crossroads’ approach to optimum hospice care, click here.
