Lisa Van Horn has been named a recipient of the Caring More Award, given annually to one social worker in the Cleveland area who exemplifies going above and beyond for patients and the community.

The Mayfield Heights resident will receive the Caring More Award March 26 at a breakfast in her honor. She will also present a $500 donation Crossroads Hospice is making to the non-profit of her choice —  the Alzheimer’s Association.

Adopted at 4 months old, Lisa Van Horn was inspired by the idea that someone took care of her when she didn’t have a home, according to a press release. Today, she directs her compassion to 74 elderly residents in her care, to raising money for cancer and Alzheimer’s, to cooking for the homeless and collecting items for a shelter.

“If I can make a difference in one person’s day just by holding their hand, it’s been a great day,” Van Horn said.

Of her many accomplishments, she cites a comprehensive schizophrenia treatment program she developed for Northeast Ohio Health Services for the prevention of re-hospitalization, according to the press release.
