Caring For Our Youngest Patients

We expect the time between birth and death to be long. We expect that living takes place until a person is old and has lived many moments that are warm and rich. We expect that a life will be full of special firsts: the first day of school, the first date, a first kiss, marriage, children, grandchildren. We expect death will come only after a full measure of life has been lived. We forget the very young can and do die. Or perhaps we refuse to think of something so painful. The truth is that the time between birth and death can be short.

Puppy Love

Ovarian and Prostate Cancer Month: Two Common Cancers, Both Difficult to Detect

September is Ovarian and Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a time when we recognize some of the leading types of cancer affecting both men and women in the United States. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among men and the fifth leading cause of cancer death among women. More than 238,000 new cases of prostate cancer and 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer will be diagnosed this year. Both of these cancers are difficult to detect and may occur without noticeable symptoms, so it’s important to know your family medical history and develop a screening plan with your physician to monitor for any changes in your health.
