St. Francis social worker praised, awarded for hard work

WMC Action News 5

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Being a social worker is not easy. In fact, it's really hard.

You don't do it for recognition or money. You do it because you love people, and you give your life to serving others. Sometimes, a social worker is so good at her job, she deserves to be recognized.

Meet Katie Carter. Carter is a social worker in the cardiac care unit of St. Francis Hospital. Her coworkers said she works tirelessly for her patients. They were so impressed, they nominated her for this year's "Crossroads Caring More Award." The award is given to one social worker who goes "above and beyond" in service to patients and community.

Carter is known to be a staunch patient advocate who makes sure patients get the services and equipment they need after they leave the hospital.

She also works with special needs adults and young moms. In the community, Carter teaches a Sunday school class for adults with special needs and leads sports activities for them so they can stay active and engaged in the community.

Carter was honored at a special breakfast. She also received $500 to donate to the charity of her choice. She selected Friends of Faith, a Bartlett day center for special needs adults.

The award is given by Crossroads Hospice
