How can I help?
Crossroads Hospice Ultimate Givers are a vital part of our team. All volunteer duties benefit patients, families and hospice, directly or indirectly, through:
• Patient care – Make visits to patient and families at their place of residence for companionship.
• Special projects – “Gift of a Day” projects or creating “Gift of Gratitude” Journals. See descriptions below for more detail.
• Office support – Assist with routine office duties to enhance the sources provided by hospice.
• Bereavement support – May attend funerals, memorial services or visitation. Assist Bereavement Coordinator in maintaining grief follow up services.
Special Projects Inspired by Jim Stovall’s novel, “The Ultimate Gift”,
Crossroads Hospice takes the life lessons taught in his book and puts
them into actual plans of care. The Ultimate Gift includes “Gift of a
Day” program and “Gift of Gratitude” journals.

• Gift of a Day. This program is based on the question: “If you had
one day to live, what would that day look like?” Our volunteer
coordinators work with staff members and local businesses to bring these
wishes to life. It is really rewarding and inspiring. We have created
everything from an enchanting evening for patient Viola Chappell
complete with a horse-drawn carriage ride to having a gigantic sand
castle created on the beach for patient Don McDonnell.

• Gift of Gratitude. These journals are created for our patients to
leave as a legacy to their family and loved ones. The journals highlight
the patient’s life based on the patient’s heritage, life treasures and
gratitude.
