Thunder “Gift of a Day” is a Slam Dunk

Gift of a Day - Oklahoma ThunderFor all of the excitement they offer on the field or court, sports mean more than just the games. For Crossroads Hospice patient Tony Higgins and his son Aaron, basketball isn’t just the chance to watch three point shots and behind the back passes. It’s the chance to bond.

The 53-year-old has been a lifelong fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder, with a passion for basketball that he has passed on to his son. As an engineering student at Oklahoma University, Aaron’s time to visit his dad is limited but he’s always sure to stop by and catch the Thunder on TV. When they had the opportunity to give Higgins the “Gift of a Day,” his Crossroads care team wanted to strengthen this basketball bond and bring it front and center.

They secured prime tickets to a Thunder game from a private donor and surprised the father and son with the chance to see their favorite team up close and personal. The two enjoyed each thrilling moment as every real fan should, fully decked in Thunder gear. As they watched the drama of the game unfold in front of them, their love for the game and for one another was on full display. Without a doubt, the Gift was a huge win for everyone involved.
