BFFs Celebrate 90 Year Gift of Friendship

undefinedThe term “BFF” may not have been coined during their youth, but it can certainly apply to Crossroads Hospice patients Doris Redding and Charlotte Crane. It was in 1924 that the two first met, growing up on the same street in Olathe, Kansas. Over the next 90 years the dynamic duo proved inseparable, maintaining a bond close enough to withstand a World War, the Great Depression and countless changes to the world as they grew up. When Crane needed a job, it was Redding who secured a post alongside her clerking for their home county’s courthouse. Today, the 94-year-olds live in the same assisted living center under the care of Crossroads Hospice in Lenexa. On Redding’s “Gift of a Day,” she jumped at the chance to incorporate her lifelong partner in crime. At her request, Crossroads staff arranged for the pair to have lunch at Perkins Restaurant and Bakery, their favorite eatery in Olathe. They spent the meal revisiting a lifetime of memories and inside jokes. Like so many others that the two have had, this day was double the fun. For more on the story, read the article in the Kansas City Star that followed their journey! The Crossroads Hospice Gift of a Day program gives patients one special day celebrating what they love.
