Honoring Your Loved One’s Memory During the Holidays

honor memory

There are many ways to honor your loved one’s memory during the holidays. It is a beautiful way to celebrate their life and keep their memory alive. The ceremony of it can also be a helpful part of the healing process for those grieving a loss. While the feeling of loss may never leave us, we learn to carry it with us and focus on the love we shared together.

Six Ways to Honor Your Loved One’s Memory

1. Light a Candle

Lighting a candle is a beautiful way to honor the memory of a loved one, especially during the holiday season. You can say a prayer or share memories of the person you have lost to keep them close to your heart.

2. Plant a Tree

Planting a tree in your loved one’s memory creates a lasting tribute and a living celebration of their life. The holiday season is a wonderful time to purchase a small tree that you can care for in your home until the weather is warm enough for an outdoor planting.

3. Random Acts of Kindness

Honor your loved one’s memory by performing random acts of kindness in your community. Leave a card or a small gift on a co-worker’s desk or pay for a stranger’s morning coffee. These random acts of kindness extend your loved one’s legacy of kindness and celebrate the joy they brought to your life.

4. Support a Cause

We all have causes and special interests close to our hearts – whether that’s an organization dedicated to fighting an illness, a local animal shelter, or a group helping underprivileged youth learn a new sport or artistic pursuit. Make a donation in your loved one’s name this holiday season to a cause that was close to their heart.

5. Hang an Ornament

Remember your loved one’s memory this year and in years to come by choosing a special ornament and hanging it on your tree. The ornament ensures your loved one will continue to be a part of your holiday celebration for years to come.

6. Share their Stories

Don’t be afraid to talk about your loved one. Remembering them and sharing stories of their life is a wonderful way to honor your loved one’s memory throughout the holiday season. Build it into your holiday gatherings, and you may hear stories you never heard before or remember beautiful moments of your lives that you haven’t thought of in years.
