His local hospital considered him one of their “frequent fliers,” because he visited the Emergency Department (ED) six times in the past three months due to exacerbations in his condition. When a few months passed without seeing Mr. Schmidt, the ED team started to wonder when his next visit would be.

This helps to control our chemical levels and blood pressure. It also keeps our bones healthy and helps our body produce red blood cells to carry fresh oxygen throughout our body.

I am told “thank you” so often for the great Gift of a Day events we provide for our patients, but we could not make these events so special without the generosity of our community.

We seem to grasp the need for effective pain management in hospice patients, burn victims and post-surgical patients, but in other areas, such as palliative care, we can miss the opportunity to do our best work as “healthcare professionals” and dramatically improve a patient’s quality of life by effectively controlling their pain.
