Patient Referral

Gift of a Day

We develop unique plans of care that include a Gift of a Day, our special program inspired by author Jim Stovall’s popular book “The Ultimate Gift.” Since its inception, we have helped thousands of hospice patients experience the perfect day. That day is based on the question: “If you had one perfect day, what would it look like?” Our staff members, volunteers and local businesses work together to bring these perfect days to life for our hospice patients.

Bringing the Joy of Music to Hospice Patient

If Gene Kelly were still alive, he probably would have tried to make it to Crossroads’ patient Barbara Youngstrom’s Gift of a Day celebration in August, where his famous song “Singin’ in the Rain” was performed for her. The song, Barbara’s favorite, was one of the many Broadway tunes a talented St. Louis performer, Meghan Kirk, brought to the Mary Culver Home for the Visually Impaired for this special hospice patient.

Staff and others who attended the show brought umbrellas, raincoats and rainboots to add to the fun.  It all happened thanks to her Crossroads’ care team who worked so hard to honor Barbara’s wish to hear her favorite show songs performed again – even if it’s not on Broadway and Gene Kelly was not dancing! Many of her family members and friends were part of this special celebration that was even covered on the TV evening news and by the local Webster Kirkwood Times.  The Crossroads’ team was so thankful that Meghan was able to bring great joy to Barbara and the other patients who attended along with her guests.

We think we heard Barbara sing “What a glorious feeling – I’m happy again …I’m dancin’ and singin’ in the rain!”
